ALL ABOUT ME-
As the son of the famous dancer, Serena, I grew up immersed in the music of the Middle East. my mother often brought me to the clubs on 8th Ave NYC in the 1960's, such as the Egyptian Gardens, Port Said, Brittania, and Greecian Cave, where later in the 70's, I played the oud 3 nights a week for the belly dancers there. I performed for many years at the Figaro, shown in this clip with many great musicians including Avram Pengas of Feenjon fame, Souren Baronian, Elias Sarkar, George Stathos, Raquy Danziger, Maurice Sedacca, Carmine Guida, Ismail Butera, and musicians from Greece and Turkey such as Umut Yasmut. I also performed for years with the great Eddie "The Sheik" Kochak. In June of 2001, I performed on the Hulya Avsar Show in Istanbul Turkey, which led to traveling to Ankara twice a year to perform promotional music for TUTAP. I am presently on the board of directors of the New York Arabic Orchestra, in conjunction with Belly Dance America. As a musical inventor, I developed a three necked instrument combining a Turkish saz, American guitar, and Arabic oud. I have devoted much of my life to the performance and singing of popular music of Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Armenia. I also enjoy creating art, 3D printing, and romantic walks on the beach!

The Elias Ladino Ensemble has performed the songs of the Sephardic Jews in venues all over the world.  Many of the Jews who were expelled from Spain in the Inquisition relocated to the Ottoman Empire.  There they lived in insular communities, practicing their religion and speaking the Spanish language that they brought out of Spain.    Over the next 450 years this language evolved into the language we call Ladino, a distinct dialect spoken only by Sephardic  Jews.  Today Ladino is on the verge of extinction.
